Azerbaijan, EU explore cooperation

On May 5, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.
The discussions, held in one-on-one and expanded formats, explored the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan–EU relations.
The officials underscored the importance of reciprocal visits and the development of a partnership grounded in mutual respect, equality, and shared interests. The meeting also highlighted the significance of dialogue mechanisms between Azerbaijan and the European Union, the resumption of negotiations on a new bilateral agreement, and talks on the Partnership Priorities document.
The sides reviewed prospects for enhancing cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy security, transport, logistics, green energy, and digitalization. Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe’s energy security was emphasized, with the country described as a reliable partner for the continent.
FM Bayramov briefed Kaja Kallas on the current situation in the region, including Azerbaijan’s ongoing reconstruction and demining efforts in the liberated territories. The discussions also addressed the normalization process with Armenia, with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister reaffirming the country’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace and sustainable development in the region.
The meeting also covered regional and international security issues, cooperation within international platforms, and joint efforts to address global challenges.
The sides further reviewed opportunities for expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union within various institutions and programs, and exchanged views on other matters of mutual interest.
