EU delegation to Azerbaijan organizes Europe Day in Baku

May 19, 2025

Baku hosted an official reception Thursday organized by the European Union (EU) delegation to Azerbaijan, marking the Europe Day.

In his remarks, Peter Michalko, Ambassador, Head of EU delegation to Azerbaijan, noted that the Azerbaijan-EU relations have strengthened over the past 30 years and have elevated to the level of the prestigious partnership.

He also commended Azerbaijan and EU sharing common position on climate action, adding that Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of the COP29 conference last November is yet another testimony to Azerbaijan’s growing authority in this area.

Addressing the event, Anar Akhundov, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Economy, described the country as a reliable partner in the energy sector and a Pan-European gas supplier. He noted that the practical cooperation with the EU, especially in the areas of energy and connectivity, is of primary interest to Azerbaijan.

Akhundov emphasized that by the decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the “Socio-economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022-2026” was approved, aiming at further strengthening of the Azerbaijani economy’s sustainability.

“Recently, while receiving the High Representative of the European Union and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaya Kallas, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted that Azerbaijan is one of the top countries to supply gas to Europe due to the geographical scope of its gas supply. Today, Azerbaijani natural gas is supplied to 12 countries, including 8 members of the EU,” the Deputy Economy Minister said.
