Borrero: EU wants cooperation with Azerbaijan on clean electricity trade

Azerbaijan has very ambitious plans for the use of wind energy in the Caspian Sea, and the European Union (EU) also plans cooperation in the field of clean electricity trade through a green energy corridor in the future, Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director of the Energy Platform and International Relations Group at the European Commission"s Directorate-General for Energy (ENER), said at the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

According to Report, she noted that the European region is currently facing a second energy crisis of a more global nature.

"Currently, high energy prices are affecting the EU. First of all, we want to accelerate decarbonization. We have clear goals to achieve decarbonization by 2050. During this period, the European Union continues to import both gas and oil," she said.

Borrero emphasized Azerbaijan"s strategic role in the transition period, noting that gas supplies via the Southern Gas Corridor to the EU have increased by 40% over the past four years.

She added that key areas of cooperation also include renewable energy and the "green energy corridor", including the development of offshore wind energy in the Caspian Sea and trade in clean electricity.
