Azerbaijan, EU mull resuming negotiations on new bilateral agreement

On April 16, a meeting between delegations from Azerbaijan and the European Union took place in Brussels to resume negotiations on a new bilateral agreement and hold further discussions on the Partnership Priorities document, Report informs referring to the press service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev, and the European delegation was led by Audronė Perkauskienė, Deputy Managing Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the European External Action Service.

 

The constructive discussions aimed to mutually understand positions on both documents and plan subsequent stages of negotiations.

 

Following the meeting, a decision was made to hold the next stage of negotiations in Baku in early June.

 

The Azerbaijani delegation, in addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included representatives of the Ministries of Economy, Justice, Energy, Digital Development and Transport, Finance, Labor and Social Protection of the Population, as well as the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of Azerbaijan, the State Customs Committee, the Central Bank, and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan.

 

During the visit, Yalchin Rafiyev also met with Jan Dusik, Deputy Director-General for Climate Action at the European Commission, and Patrick Child, Deputy Director-General for Environment. During the meetings, they exchanged views on the creation of an Azerbaijan-EU dialogue format on climate action and environmental protection, as well as initiatives put forward within the COP process and by international organizations dealing with climate and environmental issues.
